HCS SB 307 -- PROPERTY TAXES SPONSOR: Jacob (Froelker) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Ways and Means by a vote of 14 to 0. This substitute makes changes to collection procedures for real and personal property taxes. Under current law, erroneously or mistakenly paid real property taxes can only be credited or refunded to the taxpayer for the previous year if the taxpayer applies for the refund or credit within the next succeeding tax year. The substitute will extend the limitation for seeking a refund or credit to the next 3 succeeding tax years. The substitute also allows the timely payment of real or personal property taxes on January 2 when December 31 falls on a Sunday. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow taxpayers the additional time to pay real and personal property taxes when December 31 falls on a Sunday. Testifying for the bill was Senator Jacob. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Bill Tucker, Assistant Director of ResearchCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
